Pharmacy workload is expected to increase as a result of the funding cuts, 97% of survey respondents have said.

The Pharmacist's ongoing survey of the pharmacy workforce has so far revealed that more than nine out of ten people feel that the cuts will create more work for them.

The 89 current respondents include contractors, superintendents, pharmacists, locums, and other pharmacy staff from around the UK.

One pharmacy contractor said: “I will have to provide additional services to make up for the reduction in our income.

“I have now started to provide a travel clinic and vaccinations but this will not on its own make up for the lost revenue as I have to employ additional pharmacist to provide these and other services,” they said.

Increased business hours, fewer staff and additional services were the top reasons named for increased workload due to the cuts.

Another contractor commented on the survey “The threat of staff leaving due to increased work load is very real.”
