Nifedipine tablets out of stock, DHSC warns
Nifedipine (Fortipine LA) 40mg modified-release tablets are out of stock with no confirmed resupply date, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has said in a medicines supply notification.
The alert (MSN/2025/064) on the shortage – classed as tier 2, medium-impact – advised that other nifedipine modified-release products remain available.
Supplies of 20mg modified-release tablets from alternative brands, as well as Coracten® SR 20mg modified-release capsules, can support increased demand.
The notification for the medicine, which is used to treat high blood pressure and chest pain among other conditions, has been circulated to all pharmacy NHS email accounts.
Up-to-date supply information is available through the online medicines supply tool on the Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) website, which also provides updates on resupply dates. Access requires an NHS email address.
New shortages not currently listed on the Specialist Pharmacy Service website can be reported via Community Pharmacy England’s shortage reporting tool.
