Norgine Limited has recalled one batch of the laxative MOVICOL Ease Citrus Powder for oral solution 13.7 g as a precautionary measure due to some units containing low amounts of active ingredients.

The affected batch number is 454699, first distributed on 16 January 2025 and due to expire in August 2027.

Healthcare professionals have been advised to stop supplying this batch immediately, to quarantine all remaining stock and return it to their supplier.

No action is needed from patients as this recall is taking place at the retail and wholesaler levels out of an ‘abundance of caution’.

Patients in possession of this batch can continue taking it. Any adverse reactions should be reporter via the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

MOVICOL Ease Citrus Powder for oral solution is an osmotic laxative for the relief of occasional constipation in adults, adolescents and the elderly.

It contains the active ingredients: polyethylene glycol, potassium chloride, sodium hydrogen carbonate, sodium chloride.

While constipation is a manageable condition, an early diagnosis is pivotal to avoid unnecessary patient discomfort and ensure the problem is properly addressed from the beginning.

As sufferers tend to resort to over-the-counter (OTC) laxatives as first-line treatment, pharmacists play a crucial role in offering advice on the best course of action.
