‘Crucial updates’ to the Covid and flu seasonal vaccination services
There are several ‘crucial updates’ to the seasonal Covid and adult flu vaccination service specification, NHS England has advised community pharmacies.
These include:
- The supply model of Covid vaccine. Pharmacy owners will now order their initial stock, though subsequently, they can choose to enable automatic replenishment or continue with manual orders;
- Clarification that offsite locations must only be set up within the same NHS England region as the pharmacy’s registered premises;
- The terminology regarding patients who develop immunosuppression and require a vaccination has been updated. It previously referred to these patients as ‘Newly Diagnosed Patients’ and has been amended to ‘Year-Round Pathway Patients’.
This follows the recent publication of the Seasonal Vaccinations Service specification that covers the provision of both seasonal vaccination services (Covid and adult flu) in community pharmacy for the 2026/27 season.
The updated specification can be viewed here.
