Eight products have been reclassified as special containers as of 1 October 2025 following successful representations from Community Pharmacy England (CPE) to the Department of Health and Social Care.
The changes mean that pharmacy teams will be able to supply and be reimbursed for the nearest complete pack or sub-pack of the affected products, rather than adjusting quantities to fit within the original pack dispensing (OPD) 10% margin.
The affected products are:
- Cetrimide 0.2% / Benzalkonium chloride 0.01% cream (Drapolene cream, Supra Enterprises Ltd) – 200g – complete pack.
- Co-magaldrox 195mg/220mg/5ml oral suspension sugar free (Mucogel oral suspension, Rosemont Pharmaceuticals Ltd) – 500ml – complete pack.
- Desmopressin 120microgram sublingual tablets sugar free (Molecule Pharma Ltd) – 30 tablets – complete pack.
- Enalapril 250microgram orodispersible tablets sugar free (Aqumeldi 0.25mg, Proveca Ltd) – 50 and 100 tablets – complete pack.
- Enalapril 1mg orodispersible tablets sugar free (Aqumeldi 1mg, Proveca Ltd) – 50 and 100 tablets – complete pack.
- Sodium chloride 0.9% nebuliser liquid 2.5ml unit dose ampoules (Saline Steripoules, Galen Ltd) – 20 unit dose – sub-pack of 10.
CPE is encouraging pharmacy teams to flag any other products they believe should be reclassified, and to contact its dispensing and supply team to request a review.
