A batch of Ocumont Eye Ointment 1% w/w has been distributed without Braille on its outer packaging, prompting an alert from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

The ointment is used to treat acute bacterial conjunctivitis.

The affected batch (B0866), manufactured by Blumont Pharma Limited, was first distributed on 10 March 2025 and has an expiry date of 30 November 2028.

It is the only batch of the product known to be affected by the omission, which the company says occurred during the approval and release process.

According to the MHRA notice, healthcare professionals are advised to be aware that the product’s packaging is not accessible for patients with visual impairments and to offer appropriate support when dispensing.

The quality and safety of the ointment are not affected by the labelling issue, and no recall is being initiated. No action is required from patients.
