Last chance to register for pharmacy conference where leaders discuss new contract

Community and practice pharmacists have just two weeks left to register for the inaugural Community Pharmacy & General Practice Conference, taking place from 21-22 June at the National Conference Centre, Birmingham.

The two-day event comes at a pivotal moment for the sector, following the announcement of the new Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) for 2026/27 and a series of reforms designed to expand the clinical role of community pharmacy.

As pharmacies prepare for the rollout of independent prescribing through Pharmacy First and an expansion of clinical services, the conference will bring together pharmacy, general practice and primary care leaders to discuss the future of primary care.

Among the headline speakers is Peter Lilford, Deputy Director for Pharmacy, Eye Care and Controlled Drugs at the Department of Health and Social Care. As one of the senior officials involved in the latest pharmacy contract negotiations, Mr Lilford will offer valuable insight into the direction of travel for community pharmacy and the wider primary care landscape.

Several sessions across the programme will explore the implications of the new contract. Surviving NHS primary care contracts: where are we now and what next? will examine the evolving contractual landscape with insights from National Pharmacy Association chief executive Henry Gregg, alongside frontline perspectives from pharmacist independent prescriber Emma Anderson.

Other sessions, including New era of community prescribing: from pathfinder to practice at scale and Making sense of primary care contracts: working together without treading on toes, will explore the rollout of independent prescribing and examine whether aligning incentives across primary care contracts could help strengthen collaboration. and what closer collaboration across primary care means under the new contract.

Coming just weeks after the announcement of the CPCF, the conference represents the first major national opportunity for pharmacy professionals to explore what the changes mean for their businesses, their patients and the future of their sector.
