A campaign group has launched a series of ‘bite-sized’ educational videos for GPs and pharmacists to increase understanding of the menopause and the treatment options available.

The ‘Meno-series’ videos, created by Menopause Mandate, feature community pharmacist Thorrun Govind and GP Dr Juliet Balfour, a British Menopause Society accredited menopause specialist and trainer.

They cover topics including hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and its contraindications, the new prepayment certificate, serious shortage protocols (SSPs), over-the-counter options and menopause symptoms.

The conversation-style videos, which range from 10 to 15 minutes long, are designed to be accessible, ‘bite-sized’ training for clinicians.

Ms Govind, who speaks in the videos in her personal capacity as a pharmacist, said they would help make clinicians more aware of the menopause and the options available to patients.

‘We know there’s very little information even for women when it comes to the menopause,’ she said.

She added that the ‘quick bites of information’ were a low-pressure way to support and educate teams and would ‘hopefully make them a bit more aware’ about the menopause.

The videos for healthcare professionals are available to access for free online.

The series was launched yesterday at a Menopause Mandate event in parliament, celebrating the organisation’s first birthday.

It was attended by campaigners and parliamentarians, including MP for Romsey and Southampton North Caroline Nokes, shadow health secretary Wes Streeting and TV personality and model Penny Lancaster.
