Anticonvulsant medicine supply warning issued
A medicine supply warning for the anticonvulsant medicine, midazolam – commonly sold as epistatus – has been issued by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).
On 5 May, the DHSC issued a tier 2 – medium impact – medicine supply notification stating that midazolam (epistatus) 7.5mg/0.75ml oromucosal solution pre-filled oral syringes sugar free are currently out of stock until late-May 2026.
The notification also states that midazolam (buccolam and generic) 7.5mg/1.5ml oromucosal solution pre-filled oral syringes remain available and can support increased demand.
Epistatus is typically used to stop a prolonged, acute convulsive seizure in adults, adolescents, children and infants aged 3 months and above.
A copy of this medicine supply notification, including supporting information, has been sent to all pharmacy NHS email addresses.
