Infant formula recalled after it was found to contain cereulide toxin
Danone is recalling a batch of Aptamil First Infant Formula after cereulide toxin was found in the product.
The product being recalled is Aptamil First Infant Formula 800g, batch number EXP 31-10-2026. It was sold between May and July 2025 and the expiry date, batch and time can be found on the lower back of the pack.
No other batches are at risk.
The presence of cereulide toxin makes this product unsafe to consume. Symptoms caused by the toxin include nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps.
Cereulide is a toxin produced by some strains of Bacillus cereus and it is highly heat stable, meaning it is unlikely to be deactivated or destroyed by cooking or when making the infant milk. If consumed it can lead to rapid onset of symptoms.
Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
Customers are advised not to feed any of the recalled product to babies and instead, return it to the shop where they bought it from for a full refund, with or without a receipt.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has also told customers to consult a pharmacist or other medical professional before changing formula.
Earlier this month, Nestlé also issued a precautionary recall for several SMA infant and follow-on formula products due to potential contamination with cereulide toxin – a heat-stable toxin produced by Bacillus cereus.
