Otomize ear spray, a prescribed treatment for ear infections and inflammation, has been discontinued in the UK.
The manufacturer, Ennogen Healthcare International Limited, has confirmed that once existing stocks are depleted, the brand will no longer be available for community pharmacies to order.
However, a generic version – Dexamethasone 0.1% / Neomycin 0.5% / Acetic acid (glacial) 2% ear spray (5ml) – has been launched by Ennogen and is available through wholesalers.
The product carries a PIP code of 128 4512 and has an NHS list price of £3.27 for the 5ml pack.
Where prescriptions have been written for Otomize and the brand is no longer available, pharmacy teams have been advised to contact the prescriber to request a new prescription for the generic Dexamethasone/ Neomycin sulfate/ Acetic acid 0.1%w/w / 0.5%w/w / 2%w/w ear spray.
Pharmacy teams have also been advised to check that the correct generic product, rather than Otomize ear spray, is selected on systems when ordering.
