Matt Hancock has returned as health and social care secretary, following the Conservative party’s win in last week's general election.

Following a minor cabinet reshuffle this week, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) confirmed Mr Hancock will continue in his role.

The health secretary retained his MP seat for West Suffolk, with 33,842 votes, following the election on 12 December.

Mr Hancock has said he is ‘thrilled’ to retain his position.

In a video published by the DHSC on Twitter, Mr Hancock said: ‘I’m absolutely thrilled to be back as secretary of state and we’ve got so much to do.

'It’s only 10 o’clock and already the energy in this department and the team we’ve got here is ready to make it happen.

‘We’re going to drive forward the health agenda. We’re going to improve the NHS. We’re going to really make it happen.’
