A Hull pharmacy team has been left in shock after witnessing the robbery of a pharmaceutical delivery van.

A pharmaceutical delivery van believed to contain prescription and controlled medication was stolen and the driver threatened on Tuesday (7 August) at 2.45pm in front of City Health Pharmacy on Goodwin Parade in Hull.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of robbery Hessle Road half an hour following the incident, before being taken into custody for questioning, Humberside police said.

Louis Murray of Bathurst Street, Hull, born 10 July 1984, was charged with robbery, possession of class B drugs and theft of a motorised vehicle.

Anthony Deakin of Tyne Street, Hull, born 13 July 1990, was charged with assault, criminal damage, two counts of breach of a restraining order and use of violence to secure entry to premises.

The two individuals will appear at Hull Magistrates Court this afternoon (9 August), according to a police statement released today.

 

‘Very shocked’

 

Stephanie Bartlett, operations manager for Brocklehurst Chemists and City Health Pharmacy, told The Pharmacist that the staff were ‘very shocked by the incident but acted calmly and professionally, following company procedures’.

She said: ‘A pharmaceutical delivery driver had been unloading his van to make a delivery to the pharmacy when he was involved in an incident, which resulted in two men leaving the scene in the van.

‘The delivery driver approached our staff in the pharmacy to ask them to contact the police and they helped him to do this.’

 

‘Extra vigilant’

 

Ms Bartlett said that colleagues across the company were immediately made aware of the incident and advised to be extra vigilant when receiving and delivering medication.

‘We are grateful that no-one was injured,’ she added.

Humberside police said: ‘We tracked the vehicle and stopped it within half an hour of the [robbery] and arrested the driver and passenger of the stolen vehicle.

‘It is believed the vehicle contained prescription and controlled medication.’
