Independent pharmacy chain Well pharmacy has warned of vaccine fatigue after its survey found that 14% of people are bored of hearing about vaccines.

In its poll of 2,000 people across the UK last month, 38% of respondents said that they were grateful to have access to flu and Covid vaccines, while 25% felt that there was a sense of ‘vaccine fatigue’ following several Covid jabs over the last few years.

The BMJ predicted that this winter could be worse than usual, due to reduced immunity to flu following two years of Covid restrictions and the possibility of coinfection with Covid and flu.

Wells pharmacy has encouraged people to book their flu jabs as soon as possible.

George Sandhu, deputy superintendent pharmacist at Well Pharmacy, said that the sense of vaccine fatigue is ‘deeply concerning’.

The survey also found that 22% of people were not likely to have a flu vaccination, and 14% were very unlikely to have one.

‘This adds up to a lot of people who are at risk of becoming unwell this flu season’, said Mr Sandhu.

He added that although ‘it has been a very difficult and busy time for many’, ‘getting your vaccine as soon as possible really matters’.

The survey also found that 35% of people feel there should be more ‘walk-in’ appointments.

Like many community pharmacies, Well pharmacy offers flu vaccinations in community pharmacies through an online booking system. It also has mobile health clinics that visit cities across the UK.

Mr Sandhu said: ‘We are committed to helping as many people as possible and we have highly trained and experienced vaccinators ready to protect the local communities we serve.’

Last year, Skegby Pharmacy in Nottinghamshire found that its walk-in flu vaccination service was an effective way to increase revenue and that patients ‘like the fact they can just walk in’.
