The move followed research suggesting that the old age ranges resulted in children with low weights for their age band receiving a higher than necessary dose, while those with high weights for their age band might receive sub-therapeutic doses. Packs bearing the new dose ranges and containing a suitable graduated measuring device will be available by the end of this year.

The new dosage bands are:

  • 3-6 months of age: 60mg;
  • 6-24 months: 120mg;
  • 2-4 years: 180mg;
  • 4-6 years: 240mg;
  • 6-8 years: 240mg;
  • 8-10 years: 360mg;
  • 10-12 years: 480mg.
